This is really important to understand the approach that we need to follow for planning weight-gain diets. We do BCA at our clinic premises also. This tells us about the body fat percentage, muscle mass, BMR, BMI, etc. Based on the analysis, we then meticulously plan the diet.

So, sometimes people are underweight but with more than the desired amount of fat percentage in their body. In such cases, we need to be cautious about their fat intake and the weight gain approach is a mostly high-calorie diet that comes from more of protein, low to moderate fat diet combined with muscle-building exercises. Emphasis is on nutrient-rich calorie-dense food. We include a variety of healthy foods and discourage the consumption of mass gainer/ weight gainers or any other supplements if the diet can be taken care of. Such supplements are necessary only if the person is unable to increase the calories or proteins etc naturally due to some reasons.
